Council approves the river path extension

The two-mile walking route will connect the old mill district to the north bank by next autumn.

The town council voted five to two on Tuesday to extend the river path north past the old mill, closing a gap that walkers and cyclists have asked about for years.

Work begins in the spring. The route follows the existing flood bank, so most of the cost goes to two short bridges over the drainage channels near Carter Lane.

Residents along the bank raised questions about lighting and parking at the public hearing. The plan now includes low lights on timers and no new parking lot.
