Broadband pilot reaches the first two hundred homes

The town-run fiber network now serves parts of Elm Hill, with the rest of the pilot due by spring.

The town's fiber pilot connected its first two hundred homes in Elm Hill this month, about half of the area the pilot covers.

Crews run cable along existing poles where they can, which is faster than digging but depends on agreements with the pole owners. That has been the main source of delays.

The council will decide next year whether to expand the network based on how many homes sign up and what it costs to run.
